Tina King
Hi, my name is Tina King!

A little about me, I was born in Pittsburgh PA but grew up in Salem, AR with a tiny population of 1600. I have 6 brothers. I grew up loving to do art, playing sports, and riding horses. I recently got back into art after reading The Artists Way which is a book that helps artists become unblocked.

I have also been to 6 Asian countries, my favorite is Nepal. I taught English to students at a government school for 9 months on a Fulbright scholarship. This allowed me to use my artsy side too as ai made lesson plans. I am excited to share my creativity with you all!

Tina King is available for private bookings

Private tutoring in watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, and sketching.
Available most Sundays 9am-3pm.

Title or Location: Trinity River Audubon Center
This painting was inspired on one of the many beautiful trails at the Trinity River Audubon Center. I recently joined a Dallas Plein Air painting group and this was my first outing. Mesmerized by the morning sun. Inundated by the sounds of nature. It was a blissful experience. It had been so long since I had been with nature and admittedly caught the plain air bug. There was a unifying experience as nature never stopped all around me and neither did I!

Title or Location: The Dog Days of Summer
I painted this on location in Sedalia, CO. I travel back home to my native state of Colorado several times a year. I always spend time painting plein air with a good friend when I'm there. This is one of our favorite areas to paint and we typically finish off our day with a burger and beer at the local bar and grille. This day was unseasonably hot for an early September day, thus the title, "The Dog Days of Summer."

Title or Location: Golden Hour
Inspiration derived from an original oil painting. I wanted to accentuate the energy and feelings of sunset. The Golden Hour? The time where the hustle and bustle of the days activities slow down. The time for relaxation. Contemplation. Relaxation. I hope you feel that special part of the day as you look at this painting.

Title or Location: Loose floral
I do a lot of Urban Sketching and Travel Journal art after having retired from architecture after 42 years. Since I love all aspects of watercolors it was time to play around with florals to see what I could learn. I'm no botanist and don't know plant types very well but I attempted to use a looser style to capture shapes that reflect the colors, shales, highlights, and darks that happen in floral views. My inspirations are Rae Andrew's, Fabio Cembranelli, and the negative painting style of Br

I work in sketchbooks 98 of the time with my favorite pens. I prefer to draw live rather than from photos, so at night I find my characters on TV. Watercolor or other mixed media may find its way into the drawing, depending on which sketchbook I used. This was drawn in a Strathmore 500 series mixed media softcover book. The paper takes mixed media extremely well.

Title or Location: Fort Bend County Texas. This fence post stands next to a gate on a friends ranch, just off of Hwy 59 S.
On February 3rd of this year (2024), I was at my music duet partners ranch near Beasley and Rosenberg Texas, just off of Hwy 59 S. We often times go out to the country to rehearse our music when the weather is nice. I?ve driven through the gate and past this post many times before but on this particular day, the sun was shining just so perfectly and the old, rusty, broken chain really captured my attention. I jumped out of the truck and snapped a few photos, knowing I would eventually paint this

Title or Location: Cattle auction
This watercolour was painted about 16 years ago.I was looking for some images of people as a drawing/painting exercise, and happened to come across this photo in a book. My immediate thought was this would make a very interesting picture. The scene is a cattle auction somewhere in North Yorkshire.

Title or Location: Peek-a-Boo
Spring is in the air. I have recently been doing some daffodil paintings. For this painting I did a wash and instantly saw the potential for more daffodils and space for the lamb peeking through them. One of my former instructors always said, ?Listen to your painting.? This is exactly what I did here. Possibly, the idea of a lamb was inspired by the season of Easter as well.
