Tina King
Hi, my name is Tina King!

A little about me, I was born in Pittsburgh PA but grew up in Salem, AR with a tiny population of 1600. I have 6 brothers. I grew up loving to do art, playing sports, and riding horses. I recently got back into art after reading The Artists Way which is a book that helps artists become unblocked.

I have also been to 6 Asian countries, my favorite is Nepal. I taught English to students at a government school for 9 months on a Fulbright scholarship. This allowed me to use my artsy side too as ai made lesson plans. I am excited to share my creativity with you all!

Tina King is available for private bookings

Private tutoring in watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, and sketching.
Available most Sundays 9am-3pm.

I do a lot of Urban Sketching and Travel Journal art after having retired from architecture after 42 years. Since I love all aspects of watercolors it was time to play around with florals to see what I could learn. I'm no botanist and don't know plant types very well but I attempted to use a looser style to capture shapes that reflect the colors, shales, highlights, and darks that happen in floral views. My inspirations are Rae Andrew's, Fabio Cembranelli, and the negative painting style of Br

This painting represents one of my happy places. Wide open land and the beautiful sky in the background. As a novice with a love for nature this is a whimsical take on landscape painting.

I almost threw this away. Sometimes I have a hard time "pushing through" a painting that I am doing. I'm tempted to stop and say "this is not good, I won't finish it, it's awful". I painted the sky background a year ago and the painting just sat in a corner. One day I decided to just "play" with this piece of paper and I loved what happened! Quite often I find that I need to let my artwork just cook in a corner. Every once in a while I surprise myself!

I use my small watercolor kit to document the places I experience while traveling and working on tje road. I was able to spend most of the winter in Arizona, spending time in the unique Sonoran desert. Where each saguaro cacti has its own personality within the Sonoran's surreal landscape.

After I had joint replacement surgery on my left thumb, my dominant hand, I still wanted to paint. I thought that I'd just play with color using my right hand to wield the brush. To my amazement, I painted with more spontaneity and with a looseness I've been trying to achieve before. Maybe I'm ambidextrous and have only just discovered it (I'm 76).

Title or Location: Twilight in Penarth
I used to live in Penarth, and find it an interesting town by the sea, with lovely shopping, eclectic coffee shops, parks, and of course the wonderful pier. I am also fascinated by the wonderful lamps in Britain and beyond, their history and intricate designs. Hence this lovely lamp, taken from its neighbours, to stand proud and alone, but with the outline of the pier behind to illustrate its context of Penarth.
